RAILWAYS Minister Claire Perry says she is looking forward to seeing plans for a metro-style station in Wellington.

Rebecca Pow, the town’s MP, had asked in Parliament if the Minister agreed that Wellington was an excellent candidate for a new metro rail station. Ms Pow said a recent petition promoted locally showed overwhelming support for the new station and a feasibility study carried out by Taunton Deane Borough Council showed an economic benefit to the area.

She also asked the Minister to clarify the next steps that would need to be taken to qualify for funding for a new station.

The Minister said the terms and conditions for the New Stations Fund had been changed, making it easier to access the money available.
