LOCAL MP Gideon Amos has called on Chancellor Rachel Reeves to include interim funding for Musgrove Park Hospital’s maternity unit her Budget on Wednesday.
Mr Amos said in a letter to Ms Reeves: “While the Government has promised funding for a new maternity and paediatric unit in 2033, more needs to be done.
“Urgent repairs to the roof and other key areas of the building are required.
“Without interim funding, I am concerned the building will not survive until 2033.
“Patients and staff deserve better.
“I would also like to draw attention to Somerset NHS Foundation Trust’s inclusion in the forthcoming National Maternity and Neonatal Investigation.
“I urge you to engage with this investigation and its findings when they are released.
“The Government must take responsibility for improving the lives of NHS staff, as well as new parents here in Taunton and Wellington.
“The Budget presents an opportunity for the Government to invest in health care, and in people.
“Taunton and Wellington rely on Musgrove Park Hospital, its facilities, and dedicated staff.”
