LEON Searle and Ian Oliver, in preparation for their leading roles in Wellington Operatic Society’s forthcoming production of Sugar – The Some Like It Hot Musical, went to LooseEnds Beauty Salon to have their legs waxed.
Hannah Green, a beautician at the salon who is playing the title role of Sugar Kane in the show, did the waxing and both men were – fairly – brave.
She assured the victims she gained no pleasure from the experience but has since admitted she has not had so much fun for ages.
To help the boys put up with the agony, the leg waxing was sponsored in aid of the Operatic Society’s charity, St Margaret’s Hospice, chosen in memory of two well-loved recently deceased members, Swannie and Frosty, who were wonderfully cared for at the hospice. The cast have been busy getting sponsors, who have so far generously contributed about £800, for which the group is extremely grateful.
Over the next few weeks Leon and Ian will be learning more about how to transform themselves into their female stage characters, with guidance on make-up and deportment, ready to hit the Wellesley stage next month.
Sugar is staged at the Wellesley Theatre from May 10-14 at 7.30pm with a 2.30pm matinee on the Saturday.
