I am sure many people would love to see a Lidl store locally but I suspect they will not be as worried as I am by the consequences for Wellington town’s shops and the ugliness of the current planning proposal (43/20/0086).
If this application is approved we will have another Westpark-type disaster even closer to the town as the plans show the same complete disregard for proper landscaping and all-year screening with trees and shrubs.
The Longforth Farm long-term development plans never properly considered how access was to be achieved to the area allocated for employment in spite of my enquiries at the time and, subsequently, when planning applications for the first phases of housing were submitted. I enquired as to why provision was not made from the Longforth Farm roundabout but I did not get a satisfactory response.
As proposed, access to the development is in an entirely inappropriate location, off the Nynehead Road, which leads to the village conservation area, and completely disregards the nearby Grade 2 Listed old entrance gateway to Nynehead Court.
Our planners have let us down for years by approving poor developments on the outskirts of Wellington and this looks like yet another one.
