AN 18-year-old youth has been arrested on suspicion of rape, following an incident in Uffculme.

Police were called at about 4.30 pm on Friday, April 18, after a report of a woman being assaulted in Bridge Street.

A Tiverton teenager was arrested but later released on police bail until July, pending further inquires.

Devon and Cornwall Constabulary detectives investigating the assault have appealed for two boys to contact them who may have witnessed the incident or seen the victim.

Police said the boys were cycling on the bridge or a nearby footpath between 3.30 pm and 3.45 pm on the Friday, but had left the area by the time officers arrived.

Detectives from Exeter CID said they would like to speak with them as they may hold vital information to assist with inquiries.

Police are also keen to hear from any other witnesses who have not yet spoken to officers, who can contact them online or by calling 101, and quoting the reference 50250096463.
