Wellington Prep School is to open its doors to children in all year groups, from Nursery to Year 6, before the end of the summer term.
The Prep School re-opened to children in Nursery, Reception, Year 1 and Year 6 on Monday, June 1, according to the Department for Education’s coronavirus guidance.
New arrangements were introduced including maximum group sizes of 15 children, different entrances for different year groups, one-way systems, staggered pick-up and drop-off times, and hand sanitisers stationed throughout buildings. Social-distancing and learning outdoors has also been emphasised.
Years 2 and 3 are returning on Monday, June 22, and they will be joined by Years 4 and 5 on Wednesday, June 24, at which point the Prep School will have re-opened to all its families.
The school has also adopted the Covid-Safe Charter, a commitment to go beyond statutory requirements as a way of ensuring the school site is safe for pupils to return.
Wellington Prep School headmaster Adam Gibson said: “While the look of the school is different – and rightly so – our children are delighted to be back. The return of the first year groups at the beginning of June saw over 95 per cent of eligible children return to school, so I am really pleased we are able to bring the rest of the school safely back, as well. We are even planning a socially-distanced Sports Day – possibly a national first!”
In line with Government guidelines Wellington School also re-opened for Year 12 and Year 10 students from Monday, June 15, to provide opportunities for a to take part in some face-to-face learning and activities on site, and is planning for pupils in Years 7 to 9 to return for activity mornings over the next two weeks.
