A PROPERTY on North Street has been evacuated due to an urgent sewer leak.

Wellington Town Council announced on Wednesday afternoon (January 21) that North Street has been closed for urgent repairs.

The severity of the leak has necessitated an urgent site presence and a property evacuation.

North Street has been closed

The closure is between the fire station and the junction of Victoria Street and will be in place 24 hours a day.

The works are expected to conclude on Friday, January 30.

A diversion will be in place via Longforth Road and Victoria Street, while a HGV/large vehicle diversion will follow a more suitable route via Milverton, Norton Fitzwarren, and the A38 Wellington Road back to Wellington.

The carriageway closure will be in place 24 hours a day.

North Street is on a bus route and will affect public transportation in this area.

Public transport companies have been contacted by Somerset Council about this closure.

This closure coincides with the ongoing evening resurfacing works at the Chelston Roundabout.

Somerset Council are requesting that Wessex Water allow HGV access on via the closure periodically within the hours of the resurfacing works to minimise disruption.
