PUPILS at Wellesley Park Primary School in Wellington will be learning how to look after the environment – at a local and practical level – now that ten native Hazel trees have been planted in their school grounds.
The children will be encouraged to look after the trees, as part of caring for their school grounds and the wood will be used for whittling during their Outdoor Learning and Forest School sessions.
“Outdoor learning is prioritised for all children at Wellington Park School,” said head teacher Carly Wilkins. “Each child has two hours of outdoor learning every week, where children develop their imagination, resilience, problem-solving, social skills and well-being.
“Therefore, we were delighted to receive this donation of trees from Cuddledry, a local Somerset company, who donated them through Carbon Footprint Limited.
“We hope the trees will quickly become established and further enhance our Outdoor Learning provision.”
Sarah James, Outdoor Education and Forest School leader, added: “Our children love learning in our outdoor spaces. Being outside is so important for their well-being, so looking after the trees will be a great learning opportunity for them.”
Polly Marsh, owner of Cuddledry and also Careers Governor at The Castle School, Taunton, said: “Cuddledry are delighted that the trees we have donated to Carbon Footprint are going to a local Somerset primary school. Our business is committed to improving the environment for future generations so the fact that our trees have gone to support primary outdoor education is fantastic.”
