THE Madagascar 8 group at Court Fields School in Wellington will benefit from a fun race night being held at Wellington Rugby Club next month.

The students are still coining in the cash despite working for their GCSEs and preparing for the trip.

They will be taking part in a practice weekend with expedition leader, David, in the New Forest at the end of April. The students fly out from Heathrow on July 14.

The remote island of Madagascar is one of the poorest countries in the world and the group will take part in community and project work there.

They will also spend time working on an environmental project with the Lemur Conservation Foundation in the Tampolo Forest Reserve.

The group has been raising money over the last two years in several ways including quiz evenings, bingo nights, stalls at local events, bag packing in Asda, cake sales and a music night at the Rugby Club.

The race night is on Friday, April 15, and doors open at 7.15pm with bets closing at 7.50pm.

Local businesses have sponsored the races and programme, including Wilkie May & Tuckwood, C&C Carpets, Travel Counsellors, Harrison Financial Services, The Rotary Club of Wellington District, Wellington Silver Band, Domestic Bliss Cleaning Services, Angel Coatings and MJC Financial Planning.

Entry is free and a bar will be available. To find out more about the group, visit the Madagascar 8 – 2016 Facebook page and look out for posters around the town.
