TRADERS in Wellington are being given the chance to improve security through a new radio-based scheme.

The scheme, owned and managed by Sedgemoor District Council (SDC), would operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week with CCTV support and be linked to the police.

Shop-keepers, pub landlords and business owners are being invited to the launch in the upstairs room at The Iron Duke pub in the town this morning (Wednesday).

In a letter to traders, CCTV manager Barry Donbavand said: “We believe that by becoming a member of a scheme like this, you will be better placed to protect your business, and be part of a wider team to help deter and detect crime.”
