Ten fire crews from across Somerset are battling a major blaze at a restaurant near Taunton town centre this morning.

Smoke and flames were seen coming from the rear of Bare Grills in Bridge Street, Taunton, just before 5.30am on Thursday.

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said: "Fire control received a report of smoke and flames issuing from a commercial property at the above location.

"Crews arrived and were immediately presented with a three storey commercial property with smoke and flames issuing at the rear of the property.

"Shortly after arriving, an assistance message was receiving requesting the attendance of further fire appliances bringing the total to 6.

"This was shortly escalated to 10 pumping appliances and 2 aerial ladder platforms. Police and ambulance are currently in attendance assisting fire crews."

The road has been closed while emergency services deal with the incident, causing traffic congestion across the town centre.
