WORK will start this month on a £180,000 pumptrack in Wellington Recreation Ground.

It follows a £15,000 Sport England grant awarded to the town council which has kick-started fund-raising for the project, while a GoFundMe online appeal has raised nearly another £1,000.

Now, work will begin on July 21, with machinery due to arrive on site the following day, and completion likely to take about eight weeks.

Town council chief executive Dave Farrow said further grant applications were also being submitted.

The council has agreed to meet any shortfall in order to allow the project to go ahead without delay.

A pumptrack has a circuit of rollers, banked turns, and features designed for riders to generate momentum by up and down pumping movements rather than pedalling.
