A £600,000 refurbishment of Wellington Sports Centre is expected to be approved by Taunton Deane Borough Council later today.
The council's executive is to consider a scheme which could improve facilities at the centre in Corams Lane, with better changing facilities, lighting and storage for clothing and buggies, subject to written confirmation from Sport England, which is providing the lion's share of the funding.
The plan comes less than three months after a new £200,000 'fitness zone' was unveiled at the centre.
Alison North, managing the project for the Deane Council, said the project would be funded by a grant of £350,000 from Sport England, and a contribution from the council of £250,000.
Confirmation of Sport England's funding is not expected until after the General Election on May 6.
