A SMALL group of youths aged between 12 and 16 were causing a lot of anti-social behaviour problems in Wellington, town councillors were told at their December meeting.
PCSO Simon Bramley reported that police had received 14 calls in November about anti-social behaviour, mainly by the same group of young people, who police were dealing with for various offences. The main offender was from Taunton.
Action was being taken through the justice system and it was hoped there would be a reduction in the offences.
Recorded crimes totalled 51, pretty much the same as the previous month, and these included eight of assault and seven of theft, mainly motorists making off from filling stations without paying for fuel.
There were also seven of criminal damage, five domestic incidents, five burglaries including the theft of jewellery from Runnington, four public order offences and three of harassment.
Problems had also been found with youths frequently breaking into the housing development at Cades Farm and causing damage to new homes by setting off fire extinguishers. The developers had been asked to improve their security.
During the month there had been 12 missing people reports – nine from care homes, all of whom had returned with 48 hours.
The police town beat surgery is at Wellington Town Council offices in Fore Street every Tuesday between 2-3pm.
