The people of Wellington came together in silence yesterday – on 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month – to mark Armistice Day.
Town Mayor Cllr Mark Lithgow, with the president of the Royal British Legion Wellington branch Michael Rose, led town councillors, officers, representatives of the RBL, Legion Standard and Wellington School Combined Cadet Force in procession from the town council offices to the junction of North Street.
The Last Post, played on a bugle, marked the beginning of the silence and afterwards, the two-minute silence Reveille was played. This is the first time since 2019 the service has happened, due to the Covid-19 lockdown.
