TWO people have been arrested following a stabbing which took place in Wellington in the early hours of Bank Holiday Monday.

Police have confirmed two arrests were made in connection with the incident.

One person remained in police custody on Tuesday (May 29) while the other had been released on bail as police inquiries continued.

The attack took place on Roly Poly Green, just 400 yards from Wellington Police Station in Victoria Street.

A police cordon had been in place for most of Monday, but had been taken down by Tuesday morning when local residents were seen walking across the green.

The stabbing is thought to have taken place at around 2 am, by a wooden picnic table.

The ambulance service attended the scene after being called at 2.09 am. A double-crew land ambulance conveyed the victim to Musgrove Park Hospital for treatment.

Police said the victim's injuries were not life-threatening or life-changing, and described the incident as 'isolated.' They are appealing for witnesses or anybody with video evidence to call 101 and quote the reference number 5223125056.
