SUPPORTERS from Wellington and the Culm Valley area of a charity helping people suffering in Ukraine and Moldova have vowed to carry on despite its headquarters being burgled several times recently.
The Exmouth depot of Christian Response to Eastern Europe (cr2ee) suffered ‘mindless vandalism’ in the attacks just days before its latest aid cargo was due to be sent to Ukraine.
The charity said the damage had been ‘heartbreaking’ for all its supporters and volunteers.
One supporter, Janice Bawler, of Hemyock, said: “There are so many people in the Culm Valley, and from Tiverton to Bridgwater, who support the work of cr2ee who were shocked to hear of this mindless vandalism.
“The determination of the folk who turned up to load the lorry for Ukraine under such dreadful circumstances is to be admired.”
Charity trustee Hugh Scudder said: “On a very drizzly evening and under very difficult conditions and despite the efforts of those who broke into our store our volunteers sorted and packed enough aid to fill to the roof a 40 tonne lorry.
“This was only possible thanks to the generosity of our supporters and those who help fund our work.
“So much was destroyed but some is salvageable, but it means so much more work for our team of volunteers.
“We will continue to help those in Ukraine and Moldova.”
