Wellington town clerk Dave Farrow formally opened Wellington Museum for the 2022 season earlier this week.

Dave said he recognised the valuable contribution the museum makes to Wellington’s attractiveness as a place to live and visit. And he thanked all the volunteer members of the Local History & Museum Society who have kept it running for the last 39 years, even when Covid-19 had prevented it being open to the public for the last two years.

Dave had taken up his post during those two years and so was looking forward to a trip round the museum. Society chairman Paddy Gray thanked the town clerk for his kind words and encouragement.

A few changes have been made to the displays since 2019 which include Royal Jubilee-related artefacts and pictures from 1887 to 2012 and a series of pictures illustrating Wellington’s extremes of weather, snow and floods, over the last 130 years.

The museum will initially be open on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday from 10am-1pm until mid-May when it is hoped to increase the hours to the normal 10am-4pm Monday to Friday, 10am-1pm Saturday.  Entry is free.

For anyone wishing to volunteer as a steward, full training given, so no particular knowledge is required.

Anyone who would like to help in any way is invited to get in touch with the society via [email protected], by phone on 07971 242 904  or call in at the Museum, 28 Fore Street  (The Squirrel) and leave their contact details.
