PEOPLE are expected to come from far and wide to use the newly-opened pump track at the Wellington Recreation Ground.

People of all ages have been seen enjoying the new facilities and it has become a major attraction in the town.

And councillors can only see it getting busier and busier as word spreads about the pump track in Wellington.

Although the official opening of the £155,000 pump track facilities happen this weekend, the track was opened up early to enthusiastic wheeled-sports fans.

Wellington Town Council’s environment committee heard on Wednesday (September 16) that the track had been given a final thumbs-up from the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents to say it falls in line with health and safety requirements.

Open spaces manager, Darren Hill, told councillors that things had been very busy at the pump track with people using the new facilities.

“We’ve had people come up from Penzance to visit the pump track and they say they will be back with more,” he said.

“I’m sure the pump track will help the town in general with visitors using the local shops and cafes.”

Mr Hill got approval from the committee to spend out £600 on a new dustbin to go alongside the pump track – something which had been overlooked when the plans were originally being put together.

Cllr Sean Pringle Kosikowsky said: “The pump track is excellent – it’s great to see so many people using it already.”

Cllr John Thorne added: “I am sure we will get people from far and wide visiting Wellington to use the pump track.”

Councillors said they were delighted with how things have gone so far with the pump track and firmly believe it will become a real asset for the community.
