SIXTH formers in Wellington School were on Thursday (August 13) celebrating ‘superb personal achievements’ in their A Level, BTEC, and EPQ qualifications this year.

The school’s personalised focus on academic excellence for each individual saw 11 students secure A* or A in A Level subjects.

A third of all students in the year achieved A* and A grade or BTEC distinctions.

Four BTEC students achieved all Distinction* and Distinction grades, while the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) results were again also outstanding with nearly three-quarters of all grades at A* and 100 per cent of grades A* to B.

The school said 96 per cent of students secured the grades required for their firm or insurance university offers over the past three years, which it said was a statistic to be ‘incredibly proud of’.

Students continued to open doors to an incredible range of opportunities, from medicine, veterinary science, law, engineering, economics, and management, to history, global development, marine biology, agriculture, fashion, interior design, music, dance, drama, journalism, degree apprenticeships, military careers, and direct employment.

Headteacher Dr Alex Battison said: “These results are testament to the outstanding support and challenge here at Wellington, that enable young people to thrive as their unique selves and achieve their personal bests.

“The way our students, staff, and parents have worked together to achieve these outcomes is what we must continue to champion and what makes this community so special.

“Our sixth form is a remarkable opportunity where academic stretch and challenge is the status quo.

“We are so proud of all our students for making the most of what is on offer here.

“As we welcome in our largest lower sixth cohort this year of over 90 students, we are excited to see how their individual pathways unfold with the unique support and challenge offered by the Wellington sixth form experience.”
