A KNIFEMAN remains at large because his victim hasn’t told police what happened, Wellington’s police sergeant has said.

Sgt Jon O’Connor made the disclosure while probed by town councillors over the lack of an official police statement following a stabbing in a Wellington residential street last month.

He said: “There are a million and one questions, but I don’t really want to say anything here.

“The only person who knows what happened was on the receiving end and they don’t want to communicate with us.

“But nobody has been arrested because we have no information to go on.”

It follows what police described as an attempted burglary in Swains Lane, on Thursday March 7, where a man was allegedly attacked from behind with a knife.

Officers have now appealed for the public’s help with their investigation and urged anyone with information to come forward quoting reference number 5224060002
