PATIENT transport scheme, the Welly Hopper, is suspending its services until mid-September due to a lack of volunteers.
The service, which offers affordable transport to patients visiting Luson Surgery, Wellington Medical Centre, and Wellington Cottage hospital, will not run from Monday, June 23, until Monday, September 15.
Welly Hopper chairman, Erica Adams explained that several volunteers are away for the summer.
She said: “It has been more difficult to find people to help, particularly volunteer drivers.
“Right now, it is a busy holiday time, and lots of our volunteers are away. Thankfully, we’re not as busy with patients because they go on holiday too, but we would like more drivers.”
