Winners of Wellington's first town-wide scarecrow contest have been awarded their prizes by mayor Marcus Barr.

A winner was declared in each of Wellington's council wards and each awarded a £25 voucher to spend in local businesses, with an overall winner taking home a £50 voucher.

Taking away the top prize was a scuba diving scarecrow which was judged by councillors to be the best in the town.

The council thanked all entrants to the competition, and congratulated them on their 'great work.'
