WELLINGTON Association Football Club held its annual presentation night at the Beambridge Inn on Friday, writes Barry Knott.

About 100 players, members and guests, sat down to an excellent three-course meal with the evening’s presentation of awards being well compered by club chairman Mike Hall.

Opening the evening, the chairman welcomed guests Bob and Jane Trott from the cricket club, John Dunbar and Bill Sherwin from the rugby club together with representatives from club sponsors C&C Carpets, AJ Shire Electrical, Mike Rogers and Fox Electrical. 

The president, Alan Shire, handed over the awards to members of the Ladies, A team, Reserves, Firsts and Under 18s.

Secretary Jeff Brown won the main award of the night, the Clubperson of the Year, while Sam Jones was named Young Player of the Year by the club.

Awards – Ladies: Most Improved Player Lara White; Leading Goalscorer Ashleigh Grabham; Squad Member Award Leanne Godwin; Players’ Player of the Year (Des Babcock Cup) Ebony Sellick; Manager’s Player of the Year Leanne Godwin.

A team: Leading Goalscorer Jordan Sellick; Players’ Player Bradley Holmans; Manager’s Player Wesley Poulsom.

Under 18s: Players Player Ben Scott; Manager’s Player Robbie Broomhead; Most Promising Team Player (Des Waller Cup) Robbie Broomhead; Youth Team Manager Ten Year Award Paul Pocock.

Reserves: Leading Goalscorer Ollie Holman; Players’ Player (John Stevens Cup) Aaron Hawkings; Manager’s Player Clay Westcott.

First team: Leading Goalscorer (Jeff Fleet Cup) Joe Chamberlain; Players’ Player Conor Bryant; Manager’s Player Jack Bown-Porter; Supporters’ Player Glen Wright.

Club awards: Player of the Year (Keith Davey Cup) Sam Jones; Clubperson of the Year (Brown Rosebowl) Jeff Brown.

At the end of the presentations, Jane Brown, Jill Hall, Jenny Oxby and Ann Aspin were thanked for their hard work for the club, while Daniel Aspin was also thanked for carrying out raffle duties on match days.

Club stalwart Des Badcock was also presented with a bottle of whisky by Sam Bryant.

Paul Pocock was presented with an award in recognition of his ten years as a youth team manager.

It was revealed that the Neil Jenkins Memorial Match and collection on presentation night raised £1,000 for St Margaret’s Hospice in Bishop’s Hull.
