HUNDREDS of properties on the edge of Wiveliscombe saw their power supply cut off early on Monday morning (September 21).

The outage started just after 6 am and affected 580 homes and businesses in an area stretching from Hartawell toward Langford Budville.

National Grid Electricity Distribution (NGED) said the issue was caused by a fault on its high voltage network in the area.

A NGED spokesperson said electricity was restored within minutes to 523 premises, leaving 57 with a longer-term outage.

The spokesperson said: “We are getting this sorted as a priority.

“Our engineers are working to get your electricity back on as quickly as possible.

“We are sorry for the disruption.”

An initial time of 7.30 am was given for the fault to be fixed, which was later pushed back to 10.30 am.

The spokesperson said it was a ‘best estimate’ for power being restored and based on when the last customer in the area was likely to be back online, with most reconnected quicker.

However, they warned times might change if the engineers faced unexpected challenges reaching the fault and power could go on and off as the work was carried out.
