AMELIA Monteiro, 1st dan black belt from Court Fields Karate Academy, Wellington, retained her title as No1 Karate female in the South West, in the free fighting category of 12-15 age group at the South West Shotokan Karate Championships at Exeter. 

Amelia fought through the earlier rounds to reach the final where she convincingly defeated her opponent from Barnstaple Karate club on points to win gold.

“Amelia has a strong attitude and determination and this is what brought her success” says club Instructor Sensei Andy 4th dan.

The club trains at Court Fields School gym on a Tuesday and Friday at 6.30p.m. and is looking for new members who would like to try Shotokan Karate. Anyone interested can contact Andy on 09790 969632 for details.
