WELLINGTON’S first team are ‘getting better’ despite their big defeat by leaders Weston super Mare in their latest match in Regional Two South West, says head coach Bradley Field.

Wellington went down 62-0 away to 100 per centers Weston but Field, who took over the job from Graham Dawe last summer, is far from despondent.

“All I can ask of the players is that they give their best and improve on a weekly basis,” he said. “The scoreline at Weston did not reflect the way we played.

“Weston are an outstanding outfit and are putting 60 points past almost every team they play each week. We had to make a number of changes to the side and, unfortunately, we are still making too many unforced errors.”

Wellington, who included winger Tom Slade and second row Ashton Cottrell who have both rejoined the club from Wyvern, play at home to Ivybridge in a league match on Saturday, February 7 (2.30p.m.).

It is one of eight more games Wellington still have to play before the end of what has become a tough season with a victory still eluding them.

This will be the first meeting this season between Wellington and Ivybridge, with the return being played at the end of next month.

It is one of only two fixtures being played in the division, the other being at Winscombe where the home side entertain Tiverton who are lying second in the table, 29 points behind Weston with three matches in hand. Wadebridge Camels are on the same number of points as Tiverton but have played three more games.

Wellington 2nd XV are also home on Saturday, February 7- to their Bridgwater & Albion counterparts in Counties Three Somerset South (2.30p.m.). The only other game in this division is the match between Crewkerne and Weston super Mare..
