WILL Hodgson will play his last rugby match of the season for Wellington in Regional Two South West away to leaders Weston super Mare on Saturday, January 31.
The talented No 8 disclosed at the beginning of the year that he would be ‘going travelling’ early in February.
“I think he is off to Thailand and Australia,” said Wellington’s head coach Bradley Field, who took charge in the summer, replacing Graham Dawe. “He is doing what a lot of youngsters do these days and we wish him the very best.
“He is going to be a big loss for us. He is a very popular lad and he will be missed. But we hope to see him back next season.”
Hodgson, whose brother George captains the side, could not have chosen tougher opponents for his last match of the season. Weston are 100 per cent after 15 games and top the table by 24 points.
“They have recruited well and have some very good players who have come down from higher leagues,” added Field. “We can only go out there and give it our best shot.”
Fixtures: Crediton v Ivybridge, Cullompton v Winscombe, Penzance & Newlyn v North Petherton, Tiverton v Okehampton, Wadebridge Camels v Teignmouth, Weston super Mare v Wellington.
Wellington 2nd XV, who are also propping up the table in Counties Three Somerset South, are home to Bridgwater & Albion who are lying fourth.
Wellington’s only victory this season was a 49-13 home success against Wivelicombe at the beginning of the New Year.
The Milverton-based Rebels Rugby, who are seven points adrift at the bottom of Counties Two Somerset, are home to Avon who are seventh in the table with five wins from their 11 matches. Burnham on Sea top the table with a one-point lead over Clevedon, while Minehead Barbarians are in third spot.
