THERE have been four exciting matches in the Men's League at Wellington Bowling Club. The Bowlsheviks moved up from fourth to second after a close win over second placed Fun Loving Lads.
Newbees managed to stay top following a close victory over Spoofers, while bottom side Cavaliers beat Wellington and Vikings were just too good against Hemyock.
Steve Lovell, Andy Copping, Alan Every and Bill Warnett's Fun Loving Lads badly needed a win but Dave Harrison, Andrew Baird, Jay Merrell and skip Phil Ellis' Bowlsheviks were not in a charitable mood and although the Fun Lovers chased the game hard, Bowlsheviks moved ahead to win 13-7. It meant the Lads dropped to third and Bowlsheviks moved up two places into second.
Peter White, Chris Thorne, Pete Nichols and Nick Channon's Newbees were holding the top spot against Steve Horrill, Andy Pearce, Richard Manning and Rob Higgs' Spoofers.
Newbees were 9-3 up at the halfway point but Spoofers fought back. They were only one shot behind when the bell rang for the end of the match and Newbees kept their top position with a close 13–12 victory.
Vikings’ team of Eddie Dilley, Phil Wiggan, Alan Moore and skip Mark Bond were lying in seventh place before their match against Brendon Pring's Hemyock and were leading 4 – 2 before taking control and powered ahead to win comfortably 16-3. Despite their victory, Vikings remain in seventh place and Hemyock hold on to sixth.
There was a surprise result in the last of the four matches. Brian Wombwell, Geoff Jenkins, Paul Kelly and skip Graham Brown's Wellington team were in fifth place while Arthur Carter, Tony Weston, Tony Woollard and skip Alan May's Cavaliers were bottom.
However, Cavaliers started well collecting five shots before the Wellington foursome picked up 2 shots in the fourth. However, Cavaliers went on to win 16-4.
