LAST season Somerset’s Metro Bank One Day Cup fixtures at the Cooper Associates County, attracted record crowds and with this in mind the cub has just announced the themes for this year’s 50-over matchdays, writes Richard Walsh.

In recent years, Somerset have themed their One Day Cup fixtures to make the matchdays more attractive to a wider audience, and last summer saw ticket sales up 25 per cent on 2022 - the highest number for 50-over cricket this century.

The opening 50 over match of the 2024 Metro Bank One Day Cup is on Friday, July 26, against Kent under floodlights for which the theme will be The Club Cricket Social.

Throughout the day there will be a variety of Club Cricket competitions and activations to win prizes for your teams, including taking part in the interval entertainment!

This is the first fixture after the conclusion of the Vitality Blast group stage, so to keep the party atmosphere going why not get together with your teammates (and opponents!) and enjoy the day to celebrate the club game.

On Friday, August 2, the Cidermen host Lancashire, also under floodlights, and to coincide with this match Somerset’s ever-popular Annual Beer & Cider Festival will once again be held in our vibrant fan village at the St James Street side of the ground.

The fan village will open two hours before the floodlit match against Lancashire with the best of local acoustic musical talent providing the entertainment.

A wide variety of tailored food options will also be available to purchase on the day.

All Members and matchday ticket holders will receive a full set tasting notes for Beers & Ciders on offer to score and perhaps, find a new favourite!

Somerset’s annual Family Fun Day returns on Sunday, August 4, when they host Derbyshire.

Throughout the day there will be all manner of fun and entertainment within our safe and secure fan village to ensure that children and families have a brilliant day out!

On Friday, August 9 is conclusion of Somersset's 50-over competition home matches with Worcestershire providing the opposition with the theme being Bob Marley Revival - one best Bob Marley tribute acts around.

All of the reggae legend’s biggest hits will be performed on the main stage in the fan village and it will be the perfect way to round off the evening.

Last season’s top run scorer for Somerset in the Metro Bank One Day Cup competition was Andy Umeed, who played in all eight of the matches and amassed 613 runs, which included three centuries, and a best of 172 not out.
