WELLINGTON’S Hawks are celebrating a very good home victory against Ilminster in the East of Exe Bowls League. There were four games in all and the Hawks won three of them and drew in the last.

Wendy Craig, Mike Copping, Nick Channon and Tony Gibson found they were in a close game early on and at the halfway point there was little between them but the Hawks settled to their task and pulled ahead to win comfortably 20 – 9.

Andy Copping, Mark Bond, Paul Kelly and Darren Sparks started well and looked to have the game in hand but with one end to play they were just one shot ahead of the Ilminster side. It was touch and go but in the last end the Hawks managed that all important single shot for a close victory 16 - 14.

On the third rink, Lisa Dart, Andy Pearce, Peter Barlow and skip Paul Kelly did not start too well. They were 6 – 10 down at the halfway point but they settled to their game and came back well. They caught up with the Ilminster side and began to pull away. In the end the Wellington side came home with a well deserved victory by 23 shots to 14.

Angie Moore, Barry Cutler, Peter White and Chrissie Willcocks were aware that their teammates were doing well so they had to make sure they didn't let the side down.

The game was closely fought with both sides hitting high scores at different times so Chrissie's team were pleased to be leading 18 – 16 with one more end to play. However the Ilminster side were not giving up and grabbed those vital two shots in the last to draw level 18 – 18.

Despite Ilminster's best efforts the overall scores was a victory to Wellington by 77 to 55.
