WELLINGTON 2 are still top of the Wellington Bowling Club’s Men’s League but they are now only have a two point cushion over nearest rivals Old Codgers.

Codgers came up against third placed Wellington 4 led by Kevin Gamlin but Rod Troake, Denis Fullstone, John Lister and skip Mark Phillips were in fine form for Old Codgers and swept home with a comfortable victory 24–5.

There was a very tight and competitive game between Nick Channon’s Newbees and Martin Speakman’s Hasbeens. The game swung this way and that but the sides could not be separated so it was a fair result when the game ended in a 12 all draw.

Andrew Baird’s Bowlshiviks put up a good fight against a strong Hemyock side led by Ray Smith. Seven shots in the last five ends helped Bowlshiviks but Hemyock held on strongly to take it 19–12.

In the Ladies Triples League Carol Connor, Esther Twose and skip Win Courtney’s Robins were in fine form against Joan Greenway’s Wrens who could not get started and found themselves 19 – 0 down after seven ends. By the time they got going it was too little too late and Robins came away victors 26 – 5.

Falcons moved to the top of the Midweek Mixed League table, removing Demons from their perch so it was all to play for when the two teams came face to face.

Edith Butler, Ann Horwood, Tony Butler and skip Keith Horwood’s Falcons took an early lead but Dai Helps, Alec Ede, Ernie Windsor and Thelma Helps’ Demons made a determined late recovery and almost caught up.

Falcons realised the danger and took a decisive there shots in the last end to ensure victory 14–10.

Gumboots may be at the bottom of the league table but they were all smiles this week.

Everything Dot Challen, Christine Chitty, Hazel Aldridge and skip Martyn Beed’s Gumboots did worked out well for them against Martin Speakman’s Yzeds who struggled to get going and Gumboots went on to win comfortably 14–4.

Howard Barns, Jo Blackmore, Helen Lancaster and Margaret Brotheridge’s Badgers were in good form against John Lister’s Buzzards and a closely fought match went Badgers’ way 15– 9.

In the Weekend Triples League Leah Waygood, Yvonne Abbott and skip Nick Channon’s Woodpeckers continued their winning ways with a sizeable victory over Bob Codd’s Nomads 21–8 and Ann Gilbert, Win Courtney and skip John Mullen’s Southsiders managed a close win over Margaret Brotheridge’s Beaver 10 – 7.
