WELLINGTON Bowling Club’s two teams in the Devon Over 60s League have both finished as champions of their respective divisions.

The A team won Division Seven while the B side topped Division Eight. It is only the second season in which Wellington have taken part in the league with the A team winning back to back promotions.

The club are now considering entering a C team in Division Eight to give some of the newer players experience of league bowling.

It makes up somewhat  towards the disappointment of Wellington A who have been relegated from South West Two of the Somerset Bowls League.

Club captain Paul Kelly said: “We lost four of our best players for several weeks following the serious road accident returning from a match at Knowle after the first game of the season.

“We narrowly lost games which we should have picked up points and just one more point would have saved us. However we know we can compete at this level and will be making every effort to be promoted next summer.”
