THE competitions at Wellington Bowling Club are getting closer and closer to the finals which will be held on the weekend of the 13th and 14th September.

In the Amy Stanton Mixed Pairs there were four teams in the quarter finals who needed a win to get through to the semi-finals.

Alan and Liz May managed a very close win against Maggie Milton and Graham Brown and Debbie and John Lane were the winners against Diana Dagg and David Dagg.

Graham and Maggie began really well in their match against Alan and Liz May. In the first end they put a number of woods closer to the jack than their opponents and were about to celebrate a big lead when one of their bowls sailed up the green, hit the jack and knocked it back among their opponents' bowls. Alan and Liz were more than pleased with a two shot head start.

Graham and Maggie found themselves 7 – 0 down after four ends so they got down to some serious bowling and by the ninth they were all square on 8 shots each. A really good match ended with a win by just one shot to Alan and Liz May, 12 - 11.

David and Diana Dagg had a hard job on their hands because their opponents, Debbie Lane and John Lane were in good form on the day. The Daggs won the first end but after that they were chasing the game and Debbie and John came through with a good win by 23 shots to 6.

So, the two semi-finals will be staged very soon. Gill and Mike Groves will take on Liz and Alan May, and in the second semi-final Debbie and John Lane will play Pauline Wadham and Cliff Trott.
