TEAMS from Taunton Bowling Club came to Wellington last week to play in an afternoon match . The weather was cloudy at the start but apart from one or two light showers the match went ahead as planned.

It was intended that six games would be played but because some bowlers were not able to attend it was decided to play a five games match instead.

At the end of an enjoyable and very competitive match, the Wellington teams were happy to celebrate a comfortable victory by 4 games to 1.

On the first rink, Liz Copping, Nick Channon and Jay Merrell”s Wellington side found themselves 6 – 7 down after eight ends but they picked up the pace and moved ahead to win by ten shots 24 – 14.

Rob Shaw, June Anderson and Alan May did not get off to a good start. After nine ends they were 5 – 10 down and things were not looking good. They settled to their task in the second half, overtook and extended their lead to win the game by a fair margin 24 – 14.

Ron Taylor, Janet Lovell and Ian Hollingsworth also had a tight game. The teams were level on 7 each after nine ends but Ian's side pulled ahead for a good win 19 shots to 13.

On the fourth rink it was very different. The Taunton side were on form and Tim Knowles, Monica Carter and Peter White could not keep up with them. They did all they could but lost in the end 7 – 22.

Mike Whaley, Tony Weston and Bob Newton had a slow start but moved ahead in the second half to win comfortably 21 – 10 to give Wellington the game and the match overall by 93 shots to 73.
