FOUR teams from Wellington Bowling Club took on the might of Taunton Deane in a mixed friendly away match - with the visitors enjoying a fine victory.
Suzanne Worth, Paul Kelsall and skip Arthur Carter kept pace with their opponents and after 11 ends they were level on 7 shots each.
Arthur's team settled to their game and refused to let the Taunton side have any more shots after that and won it comfortably 27 – 7.
Liz Copping, Monica Carter and skip Peter White had a harder time of it on their rink. The Taunton squad kept their noses in front all through to win by a fair margin, 21 – 11.
The last two rinks were very tightly fought battles. June Anderson's team came very close but lost by one shot 17 – 16 and Mark Bond's trio only lost by two, 17 – 15. The final score was a 69 – 62 victory to Wellington.
Meanwhile, Wellington Bowling Club's Pumas went up against two teams from Tiverton Canal Bowling Club in a two rink battle.
Peter White, Phil Wiggan and skip Andrew Baird picked up a big 5 and a 4 in the first eight ends to take a comfortable lead by 14 shots to 4.
In the second half the visitors collected 12 shots in the last half, but it wasn't quite enough and the Wellington trio won it 21 – 16.
Andy Pearce, Brian Wombwell and skip Tony Weston also got off to a very good start. At the halfway point they were 12 – 9 up.
The Tiverton side began to fight back in the second half but it was too little, too late, and the Pumas won convincingly 23 – 12.
The overall score was an excellent victory to Wellington's Pumas 44 – 28.
