FORMER Court Fields School student Brooke Aspin faces being sidelined for eight to ten weeks after being injured while playing for Bristol City against Manchester United in the Women's Super League.

Playing in the biggest game of her short adult career last Sunday, Brooke (18) was stretchered off in the first half after suffering a leg injury. A scan this week revealed she had suffered a strained PCL (posterior cruciate ligament).

The match attracted a record crowd of more than 14,000 for a women’s game at Ashton Gate. City lost 2-0, the first goal being a wicked deflection.

Brooke only learned last week that she had been selected for the Lionesses' Under 23 squad for two international matches.

Although she will be out of the game for a lengthy spell, she is likely to miss only five league games. She cannot play against champions Chelsea, who have loaned her out to City, and there is also an international break.

Her granddad Graham, who was a regular first team player for Wellington and is now vice-chairman of the club, said yesterday: "Brooke's a fighter and will bounce back."
