MINEHEAD have stretched their lead at the top of Division Three in the West Somerset Cricket League to 108 points following an eight-wicket home win over Wiveliscombe.

Put into bat, Wiveliscombe struggled throughout their innings and were bowled out for 78 with only three batters making double figures against the bowling of S Anilkumar (3-19), A Dyer (3-5) and R Rajan (2-20). Opener G Varghese Pulikkottil scored 44 of Minehead’s runs.

Stoodleigh stay in second place after they beat Carhampton by four wickets in a high-scoring game. Carhampton scored 284-5 with James Snell bowled one short of his century while Rob Speed scored 62. Bing Torrance was 97 not out for Stoodleigh while Anthony Vigus hit 64 and Edward Mock 56.

Ashbrittle remain third after their opponents Fitzhead cried off, handing them 35 points, while Over Stowey won by two wickets against Buckland St Mary & Bishopswood, whose openers Charith Liyanagamage (67) and Ian Every (64) put on 131 for the first wicket.

Buckland scored 198 all out while Stowey opener William Marchent-Saunders hit 85 off 73 in the successful run-chase.

Division Four leaders Morebath topped 300 runs in beating Spaxton by 199 runs with openers Stephen Kelland (60) and Chris Gale (77 not out) in good form. Morebath’s most successful bowlers were Harry Scratchard (3-3), Edouaard Le Grant (2-14) and Andrew Foxford (2-6).

Stogumber stay second after they won by 80 runs against Stoke St Mary with Justin Hayward (73 not out) and Tom Foley (41) in good form,
