WELLINGTON will be looking to step up the pressure at the top of Somerset Division in the West of England Premier Cricket League when they play at home to Wembdon on Saturday, June 20 (12 noon).
Wellington are unbeaten this season and are lying second in the table, 15 points behind leaders Ilminster, both sides having played the same number of games. Wembdon are fifth, 12 points adrift of Wellington.
Wellington gained a four-wicket away victory over Frome last Saturday, recovering from a poor batting start when they lost both openers Luke Desave and George Ruell for ducks when chasing a target of 223.
Sam Whitefield (53) and Sri Lankan all-rounder Lakshan Edirisinghe (94) came to the rescue with a 135-run partnership for the third wicket.
Earlier Frome, who won the toss and chose to bat first, had made 222-7 in their 50 overs with Donald Corbett being their top batter with 62 while Edeirisinghe took 2-28 in his ten overs and George Davis 2-35.
Ilminster have a tough home match - against Chard who are lying third and have lost only once this season.
Meanwhile Wellington 2nd XI will be looking to improve on ninth place in Division One of the Somerset League when they play away to second-placed Broadway & Horton who trail leaders Long Sutton by 23 points.
Wellington’s second string suffered their third loss of the season last Saturday when they went down by seven wickets at home to Long Sutton.
Wellington scored 167-9 in their 45 overs with eight players getting into double figures but unable to make a big score with opener Aks Latifi being their top batter with 26. The leaders knocked off the runs in 34 overs.
Wellington 3rd XI, fourth in Division Seven South, are away to Mass 2nd XI who are bottom and have yet to win a match.
