WELLINGTON Association Football Club’s United Under 13s celebrated the end of their first 11-a-side season with a day out to Footgolf on the Exe followed by an awards evening which was staged at the club.

Manager Steve Newstead said: “The boys showed great improvement which will hopefully put them in good stead as their games move to Sundays as Under 14s.

“We look forward to the forthcoming season and giving the boys the opportunity to play the beautiful game and make plenty of memories along the way.”

Awards made at the presentations included: Players’ Player and Parents’ Player, Zach W; Golden Boot, Blake M; Most Improved, Fin H; Manager’s Player, Caleb J-H.

All the boys also received a trophy thanking them for being part of the team for another year.

The squad would like to thank their sponsor, The Gutter Doctor, for their continued support throughout the season which is very much appreciated by the boys - and officials. They are also grateful to Pizza Palace for providing food in the evening. *Wellington United played in Division Three of the HO Soccer Taunton & District Youth Football League where they finished a very respectful fifth place against some very strong teams.

The standout team in the third division were Spaxton Junior Youth who won 13 of their 14 league matches, dropping their only points in a drawn game. FC Rhinos Taunton were runners-up after winning 12 of their matches, finishing four points behind Spaxton. Staplegrove Saints were in third spot, with eight wins from 14 games.

In all, 25 teams competed in the three divisions at Under 13 level, with Minehead Falcons successful in finishing top of Division One while Wembdon Saints came out on top in Division Two.
