A DOUBLE century by Savin Perera and centuries from Bertie Michael and Will Smeed helped to see Somerset Seconds to a nine wicket victory over Surrey in the Second XI Championship at Taunton Vale.

After choosing to bat Surrey Seconds were bowled out for 236, left arm spinner Harvey Richards claiming 4 for 59 from 21 overs, two of which were maidens, while Manraj Johal, a triallist who has appeared for Warwickshire, took 3 for 21 off 7, with 2 maidens.

In reply the Somerset opening partnership added 254 before Bertie Michael was out for 107 which came off 186 balls with 20 fours. The other opener Savin Perera was then joined by Will Smeed who put on 205 for the third wicket before both were out in quick succession.

Perera was first to go with the total on 471, having scored 215 off 335 balls with 29 fours, followed four runs later by Smeed whose 106 came off 123 balls with 13 fours and 5 sixes. Later in the order Zach Vukusic made 28 and Ben Chruch 22 before the hosts declared their innings on 539 for 8 in 122.5 overs.

Batting fora second time Surrey fared better and made 354 all out in 104.5 overs, Richards ending with 3 for 75 from his 25 overs with four maidens, giving him match figures of 7 for 134.

Chasing 52 for victory, Somerset lost Tom Kohler-Cadmore cheaply before Smeed and Perera saw them to 56 without further loss off eight overs, giving Somerset victory by nine wickets. Perera ended unbeaten on 15 while Smeed was 36 not out at the end.

Somerset Seconds played their final Championship match against Durham at Gateshead before rounding off the season with a friendly against Worcestershire at Kidderminster on 14th September.
