WELLINGTON Cricket Club's annual general meeting for the 2025-2026 session will take place at the club's Long Hop Bar based at Wellington Playing Field on Tuesday, 28th October, with a 7.00pm for 7.30pm meeting arrangement, writes David Derrick
Next year will be a season of change for the Red and Blacks following the decision of all-rounder Arron Campbell to step down as 1st XI captain after eight years in the post; a period of time that has seen the club enjoy some of its most successful times with a completely unbeaten season in the Somerset Division of the West of England Premier League in 2023 and an appearance at Somerset CCC’s ground at Taunton in the Final of the 20-overs a side Baker Cup T20 competition in 2025 both ranking high.
Having never won the Baker Cup, Wellington played Taunton Deane in the final and might have won it had one or two decisions gone for them, rather than against them.
The club are committed to continuing this process under the new captain and that Arron is available to remain as a committee member is great news.
The 2nd XI missed out on second place in Division Two of the Somerset League by a single point, but has plenty to look back on fondly following a flurry of successive promotions in recent years.
The 3rd XI, like the 1st XI, will have a new captain following Connor Wickenden's decision to step down after a two and a half season stint in the job . There are contenders for the roles that need filling and a seamless transition is to be the order of the day as the Club closes in on its 80th year since being reformed post WW2.
