WELLINGTON will look to bounce back from Saturday’s emphatic seven-wicket defeat at Ilminster when they welcome joint leaders Taunton Deane on Saturday (12pm).
Welly, who are seventh, but made just 136 all out in 39 overs with Sri Lankan pro Lakshan Edirisinghe making 53 as Charlie Vickery (3-25) and Lachlan Rice (5-35) shared eight wickets.
The hosts eased to victory with opener Adeesha Nanayakkara making 74 from just 73 balls.
Saturday’s results meant Ilminster went level with Taunton Deane.
The reverse fixture saw Wellington emerge 110-run winners having racked up 283-9 with Stian Smith (45), Edirisinghe (60) and Arron Campbell (43) the main run-getters.
Campbell then took three wickets with his off-spin as he and Luke De Share shared seven wickets.
Wellington Seconds are top of the Somerset Cricket League Division Two before their trip to their Taunton counterparts.
Saturday saw a fine bowling performance as visiting Burnham-on-Sea were comfortably beaten by six wickets.
After George Davis (2-5 off 5) reduced Burnham-on-Sea to 15-2, Welly took wickets throughout as Neil Hendy (2-26), Rob Moysey (3-18) and Oli Beale (3-13 off 4.1) shared the rest.
The chase saw Welly slip to 45-2, but a 62-run stand between opener paul Short (32) and Beale (47no) got the job done.
Wellington beat Tautnton by two wickets with two balls to spare having been set 167 to win in 40 overs, that after openers James Brackenbury (38) and Short (46) had put on 79.
The thirds had last Saturday off and take on Wemdon Fifths in Division Seven Red of the Somerset Cricket League.
Welly are 32 points clear of second bottom Taunton Deane Fifths, but could do with a couple of more wins to be sure of safety.
On Sunday, Welly are due to welcome North Curry in the Somerset T20 South Group (2pm).
