WELLINGTON 2nd XI are heading for second division cricket in the Somerset League along with West Monkton after losing heavily to Long Sutton on Saturday, August 15, writes David Derrick.

Wellington travelled to divisional champions in waiting Long Sutton and were, unfortunately, despatched to the tune of ten wickets, having won the toss and opted to bat.

In what has been a tough old season for the Red and Blacks’ second string, Aks Latifi has been a shining light with both bat and as the team's wicket keeper and he made another classy knock in this game as he crafted 51 in eighty balls with eight fours and three sixes.

Together with Oscar Milton, who made a sublime 40, he added 77 runs for the third wicket to take the score to 96-3.

Only Tyler Fyfe with 10 not out got into double figures from here though as Long Sutton's disciplined and tidy attack did a professional job to dismiss Wellington for 140 in 38.1 overs as Glew with 3-16 and Cook with 3-32 did good work and the innings was ended by Jenssen's quick two over blast of 2-7.

Long Sutton, from near Somerton, saw Crocker and C. Vigar hit twenty-three fours between them in the 12.2 overs it took them to polish off the 141 run target. Sutton took 35 points to Wellington's seven. Scores: Wellington 2nd XI 140, Long Sutton 143-0.

Second-placed Wedmore gained their tenth win of the season when they beat Winsombe by eight wickets.

On Saturday, 22nd August, fourth placed Broadway and Horton visit the Lloyd and Whyte Cricket Ground for a 1p.m. start before a visit to Wells and Horrington, who are currently fifth, wraps up the season on Saturday 29th August, also starting at 1p.m.
