WELLINGTON are through to the final of the 20-overs a side Baker Cup cricket competition after gaining a splendid four-wicket victory over Premier One outfit Bridgwater at the Convent Field, Taunton.

Batting first, cup favourites Bridgwater scored 133-7 in their allotted overs with Tom Bellinger hitting 28 and Harminder Singh 25. Wellington School student Stian Smith took 3-20 in five overs while skipper Arron Campbell finished with figures of 2-32.

Wellington, who play five levels below Bridgwater in the Somerset Division of the West of England League, knocked off the runs with six balls to spare. Sri Lankan Lakshan Edirisinghe scored 46 from 29 balls, opener George Ruell 34 and Campbell 31 not out, including three sixes in the penultimate over. He shared in an unbroken partnership of 37 with Sam Whitefield who was seven not out at the close.

The final against Taunton Deane will be played at the County Ground, Taunton, on Monday, August 4.

Meanwhile, Wellington will be chasing their sixth successive league victory when they play at home to Temple Cloud on Saturday, July 19 (12 noon).

Their opponents will be looking to pull off the season’s double over Wellington, having beaten them soundly by 114 runs in May. Temple Cloud scored 208-7 in their 50 overs and then bowled out Wellington for 94.

However, Wellington have strung together some impressive performances since then and are only six points off second in the table Ilminster.

Wellington 2nd XI will be looking to keep up the pressure on leaders West Monkton when they play away to Huntspill & District in Division Two of the Somerset League. Wellington are only 21 points behind Monkton, both teams having played the same number of matches.

Wellington 3rd XI are home to Huntspill & District 2nd XI in Division Seven Red, the match to be played at Sampford Arundel.
