WELLINGTON 3rd XI chalked up a five-wicket victory over Huntspill and District in Division Seven South of the Somerset League at Sampford Arundel, writes David Derrick.

Tyler Fyfe's team find themselves 44 points behind second placed Bishops Hull 2nd XI with a game in hand as they gear up for a double-header of games this coming weekend.

H and D 2s opted to bat first and were rushed out in 22.1 overs as Max John, in only his second game since moving from Staplegrove, took 3-23 in five action packed overs. Ben White with 2-19 in four overs was joined in the wicket taking for Wellington by Jay Jadeja who took 2-43 in eight good overs as H and D 2s scored at a good rate.

Craig Schultz and Jeet Jadeja ended matters to see that Wellington would need 107 to win at under three runs per over. H & D’s top scorer was Davies with 32.

Phil Baker and Tyler Fyfe got 17 good runs on the board before the skipper was bowled by Davies (3-17 in six overs) with Baker continuing to 19 in 21 balls with three fours and a six.

The game's overall pattern of fast run scoring with wickets falling aplenty continued in the Wellington batting effort as the score became 36-3, but a creative stand of 60 for the fourth wicket between Max White who crashed 49 not out in 41 balls with 44 runs coming in boundaries and Tom Luter with a most decent 25 with five fours in 30 balls got the home team to within an ace of their target.

Two more wickets fell before the 107 total needed to win was passed, but White and Tony Hutchings saw the job to completion and a full tally of 35 points. Scores: Wellington 3rd XI 110-5, Huntspill & District 2nd XI 106.
