WELLINGTON gained a decisive seven-wicket home victory over North Petherton in the second round of the 20-overs a side Baker Cup cricket competition.
Opting to bat first after winning the toss, Petherton made a disastrous start, losing four wickets for only 14 runs. However Tom Lambet (25) and Callum Kinnear (55 not out) came to the rescue with a fifth-wicket stand of 50 before Petherton were bowled out for 100 with Nathan Yarde taking 3-12, Arron Campbell 2-15, Toby Stirzaker 2-19 and Lakshan Edirisinghe 2-13.
Wellington recovered from the early loss of Wellington School student Stian Smith to knock off the runs with eight overs to spare, with opener George Ruell scoring 47 not out, Alex Sparks 28 and Edirisinghe 18.
Meanwhile, Wellington will be looking for back to back wins in the Somerset Division of the West of England Premier League when they play away to bottom side Butleigh on Saturday, June 21.
Butleigh have yet to win a match, having lost six games while another was abandoned. Wellington are lying eighth in a very competitive division which is led by Temple Cloud who have lost only one match. Their latest game against second-placed Yeovil last Saturday was abandoned because of rain.
Wellington 2nd XI, second in Division Two of the Somerset League, have a home game against Broadway & Horton who are only one place below them in the table.
Wellington are 30 points behind the leaders West Monkton who have won six of their seven fixtures, the other being cancelled.
