THE curtain has gone down on another season in the West Somerset Cricket League with new winners of the first division.

Ashbrittle, who were runners-up the previous summer, won the division with 432 points from their 14 matches - 57 points more than runners-up Crowcombe.

The new champions lost only one match - when they went down by three wickets away to Crowcombe in June. They went on to chalk up 12 victories while they had one match lost due to rain.

Crowcombe finished with 15 more points than third-placed Morebath, who pushed Watchet into fourth spot - with only three points separating the teams. Sadly, Brompton Ralph and Sampford Arundel failed to fulfil their fixtures which means almost certainly no side will be relegated.

Stogumber won Division Two, finishing 26 points clear of runners-up Stoke St Mary, with both teams being promoted next summer. At the other end of the table. Hemyock pulled out of the division after winning Division Three the previous season.

Minehead proved to be the outstanding side in Division Three, remaining unbeaten. They won 13 of their 16 matches, while they were awarded the points by the opposition in one fixture, one game was cancelled and one abandoned.

Ashbrittle finished runners-up and will be joining Minehead in the second division next season while Over Stowey and Fitzhead will be heading in the opposite direction.

Stogumber won the fourth division by 90 points from Morebath who finished second, 39 points ahead of third-placed Brompton Ralph.

Watchet made up for the disappointment of losing their league title by beating Stogumber by 46 runs in the final of the KO Cup.

Minehead completed a league double by winning the Stuart Allbut Memorial Shield, triumphing by six wickets in the final against Stogumber.
