THE West Somerset Cricket League was badly hit by the bad weather over the weekend with only one match being played.

Third division winners Minehead maintained their unbeaten record with a ten-wicket away victory over Buckland St Mary and Bishopswood who were bundled out for 77. Lucas Baker was Buckland’s top scorer with 32 while Adithyan Rajan took 2-33, Sreejith Anilkumar 4-15 and Reuben Rjan 3-8.

The target proved no problem for Sam Cobb (51 not out) and Henry Murrell (21 not out) who knocked off the runs in 39 balls to take another maximum haul of 35 points.

It was Minehead’s 12th win of the season with the championship having been won some time ago.

In the second division, games involving leaders Stogumber and second-placed Stoke St Mary were rained off which means only four points still separate the two sides going into their last match.

It was disappointing that the only two matches scheduled to be played in Division One were conceded by the opposition. Bagborough were awarded 35 points after Bridgetown pulled out while Morebath received the same number of points after Over Stowey failed to fulfil their fixture.

It means Morebath moved up to within 17 points of second-placed Crowcombe with both sides having one more game to play.

Crowcombe entertain Bagborough on Saturday, September 5, while Morebath are away to Over Stowey the following weekend.
