MORE than 30 bowlers put their names forward to compete in the Wellington Bowling Club Men's Indoor Bowls Competition in October, 2023.

After nearly three months of battling it out two bowlers won through to the final - Robert Higgs and Phil Ellis faced each other to see who would become the Men's Indoor Champion. Club president Ann Cowling kindly agreed to mark the match.

Phil got off to a good start, winning the first end by one shot, the second by two shots and the third by another one, so he was leading 4 – 0 .

Rob came back in the fourth, taking a three but he found himself chasing Phil who led all the way up to the ninth end when he finally caught up to level it at seven shots each.

From then on the game swung this way and that with Phil doing most of the chasing. This continued until the 16h end when Phil found himself one shot down at 11 – 12.

Phil picked up his game and won all but one of the last five ends to win the game and become Men's Indoor Champion 2024.

The bowlers thanked Ann Cowling for an excellent job of marking the final and everyone congratulated both players on some excellent bowling and a closely fought match

Club members would like to congratulate Phil on his win and Janet Moore (Indoor Bowls Coordinator) for organising and administering the event.
